EXECUTIVE NOTE: All Roads Lead to East London for the Municipal LED Summit
All Roads Lead to East London in supporting the Presidents call for team work in creating 11 Million jobs by 2030, the LGBN will be hosting the 5th Municipal Local Economic Development Summit 2013, on the 11th and 12th November 2013 at the East London Premier Hotel ICC, East London, Eastern Cape to unpack the “Development of Local Economies through Infrastructure and Innovation”.
The LGBN recognises that jobs will be created mainly through private enterprise activities but it is essential that government takes a more assertive role in directing as well as enabling the economy to grow in a manner that creates jobs on a large scale for the benefit of all. This inherently brings into focus the need for our state owned enterprises to gear up to the challenge of stimulating the economy to grow faster whilst creating employment. The Local Government Business Network (LGBN) in association with DBSA, Telkom Business, SANRAL, University of Pretoria Business Enterprise, Iburst, AVIS, and various government departments will be hosting this two day summit to advance local economic development and job creation.
The two-day programme will include but not be limited to:
- • Localising the National Development Plan to support the 11million Jobs initiative by the Presidency
- • Land Distribution, Rural Economic Development and Spatial Planning
- • Current State of Financing and Developing Infrastructure at Local Level
- • Identifying Tourism Opportunities and the Marketing thereof
